Volleyball Swept by Ashland at GLVC-GLIAC Crossover

AURORA, ILL. - Ashland University hit .330 en route to a 25-21, 25-15, 25-17 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team Saturday afternoon on the final day of the GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Tournament.

The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Tritons, who slip to 8-13 overall. Ashland, which finishes tourney play with a 3-0 record, improves its ledger to 16-4. UMSL recorded a 2-1 mark in the tournament, tying the 2010 team for its best finish.

Senior Liz Jaeger paced UMSL with 15 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Lindsay Meyer recorded 26 assists and 12 digs. The Tritons hit .129 as a team, while Ashland held a 6-3 advantage in blocks.

The first set saw 12 ties and two lead changes with neither team owning more than a two-point lead until an UMSL attack error gave Ashland a 23-20 lead in the middle of a 5-1 run.

The Eagles scored 10 straight points in the second set, turning a 13-12 lead into a 23-12 advantage.

Ashland jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the third set before building it to an 18-11 lead, forcing a second Tritons timeout. UMSL responded with back-to-back kills from freshman Hannah Miller and senior Haley Woods, but would get no closer.

Senior Jennie Manis finished with 19 digs to lead the defense, while Miller recorded two blocks.

UMSL returns to GLVC play next Saturday, hosting Southern Indiana at 5 p.m.
