SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Drury's Alex Smith recorded 26 kills and 21 digs to help the Panthers to a 3-2 victory over the visiting University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Panthers won by set scores of 16-25, 25-19, 25-21, 28-30, 15-10.
The Tritons slip to 10-14 overall, including 7-5 in the GLVC, while Drury improves to 12-14 and 4-8 in the league.
UMSL was held to just .142 hitting, while Drury connected at a .218 clip and owned a 10 to 7.5 blocking advantage. The Panthers hit .312 and .417, respectively, in the fourth and five sets, while UMSL fought off four match points for Drury to rally for the 30-28 set four win and force the fifth set.
The Panthers then used a quick start in the decisive set en route to the win.
Senior
Corinne Hoekstra paced the Triton offense with 10 kills and four blocks, while hitting a team-best .429. Freshman
Lindsay Meyer handed out 46 assists, while recording a career-best 22 digs. She also added three kills and a pair of service aces.
Junior
Chelsea Burkle recorded a team-best 11 kills and added four blocks, while senior
Jennie Manis tallied 20 digs. Junior
Anna McNulty chipped in 12 digs and three service aces.
UMSL is back on the court tomorrow in Rolla, Mo., for a 5 p.m. contest against West Division leader Missouri S&T.
