LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team lost a 3-2 decision at Bellarmine Saturday evening in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The host Knights won by set scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-11 to improve to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the GLVC. UMSL slips to 5-12 and 4-4 in the league with the loss.
Bellarmine hit .211 and recorded 65 kills to secure the win, while UMSL hit .144 and tallied 48 kills. The Tritons owned a 12-5 advantage in blocks and also recorded six service aces.
UMSL received 11 kills, 10 digs and five blocks from junior

Liz Jaeger also reach double figure kills with 10.

Lindsay Meyer dished 19 assists each, while Meyer added 12 digs and three service aces. Senior

Bellarmine used an early 7-2 run in the first set to turn an 8-5 lead into a 15-7 advantage. Then later with UMSL trailing 17-9, the Tritons put together a run of their own to pull within 18-13, but a service error and attack error shifted the momentum back to the Knights, who hit .310 en route to the win.
The Tritons scored 12 unanswered points in the second set, turning a 10-7 lead into a 22-9 advantage, which included four kills from freshman
Hannah Miller. However, Bellarmine responded with nine straight points of its own to pull within 22-16. The Knights then held off three UMSL set points before Brightwell ended the frame with a kill.
In the third set, Bellarmine used seven unanswered points to turn a 16-14 deficit into a 21-16 lead. A kill from senior
Haley Woods later cut it Knights advantage to 23-20 lead, but Bellarmine scored the final two points of the set to take a 2-1 match lead.
A 7-2 run early in the fourth set helped UMSL to a 12-6 lead. Bellarmine pulled within two three times, including 21-19, but would get no closer as the Tritons forced the fifth and deciding set.
The Knights scored five straight points midway through the final frame to turn a 7-5 lead into a 10-5 cushion before a 4-1 UMSL run trimmed Bellarmine's advantage to 11-9. However, the Knights scored three of final four points to help record the win.
UMSL returns to action tomorrow in a 1 p.m. match at McKendree.
