Men’s Basketball Fends Off Blue Tigers For 81-71 Win

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Five players scored in double figures as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team fought off Lincoln University on Saturday afternoon to record an 81-71 victory.

The Tritons used an 18-7 run in the second half en route to the win. After a traditional three-point play by Cedric Ridle gave Lincoln a 49-48 advantage with 8:36 to play, junior Michael Weber knocked down a three-pointer to start the run, giving UMSL a 51-49 lead it would not relinquish. Senior Isiah Nunn ended the run at 4:44 with a layup as UMSL took a 65-59 lead. Weber scored eight of his 14 points during that stretch and also finished the game with five assists and two steals.

Junior Darian Cartharn scored a team-best 18 points, while junior Joshua McCoy recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. Nunn and senior Charlie Woods chipped in 10 points each.

UMSL improves to 5-1 on the season, while Lincoln slips to 1-7.

The Tritons shot 39.2 percent from the floor, while Lincoln shot 47.3 percent, including 58.6 percent in the second half. UMSL owned a 33-30 rebounding advantage.

The Tritons held a 27-21 lead at the half after using a 9-2 run in the final 4:55.

UMSL returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Maryville at 7:30 p.m. in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.
