SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Freshman
Haley Larson scored two goals, but it wasn't enough as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team lost a 5-3 decision at Drury on Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Panthers scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half to break a tied game and hold a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Drury scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute for the early advantage before Larson countered at the 26 minute mark on a header from four yards out off a pass from freshman
Amy Stewart for her first goal of the game.
Drury then struck with goals at the 40:06 and 43:40 marks to close out the opening 45 minutes.
The Panthers added their fourth goal of the game, scoring just two minutes and two seconds into the second frame before junior
Brittany Harbaugh trimmed the deficit to 4-2 nearly 10 minutes later, scoring on a penalty kick with the clock stopped at 57:59 after she was fouled in the box.
Both teams would tack on a goal in the final 10 minutes for the final score. Drury made it 5-2 in the 80th minute, while Larson tallied her second goal of the day and team-leading fourth of the season with 28 seconds to play, scoring from five yards out on the right center side off a pass from freshman
Kali Thomas. Of UMSL's four goals scored this weekend, three were courtesy of Larson, who entered the weekend with just one goal.
Drury, which improves to 6-3-1 and 4-3-1 in the GLVC with the win, out-shot UMSL, 18-9, including 8-3 in shots on goal. UMSL slips to 2-6-1 and 2-5 in the league with the loss.
Larson fired three shots, while Harbaugh took two.
The Tritons return to action on Friday, hosting Lewis at 5 p.m.
