ST. LOUIS – University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer junior defender
Taylor Martin added another postseason accolade on Wednesday as she was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America second team for women's soccer. She becomes the 24th Triton student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors.
Martin joins Joan Gettemeyer (1984) and Lori Lueddecke (1997) as the only players in program history to receive the prestigious honor.
She was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America third team last week, was a first team All-Midwest Region selection for both the United Soccer Coaches and Division II Conference Commissioners Association teams, was a first team All-GLVC selection and the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Year.
Martin helped lead the Tritons to a 15-5-2 record including 11-1-2 in the GLVC, a share of the GLVC regular season title, a Midwest Region title and a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals.
A native of Columbia, Ill., she tallied one goal and four assists for a total of six points this season and helped lead a defensive unit that posted 12 clean sheets and held opponents to just 8.5 shots per game.
Martin is majoring in business administration with a 3.87 grade point average.
To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must compete in 90 percent of the institution's matches played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches.
