INDIANAPOLIS, IND., October 14, 2013 – Sophomore midfielder
Jon Huelsman of the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the league. Jeffrey Neidlinger of Southern Indiana took home Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Huelsman scored three of the four UMSL goals scored this past weekend as the Tritons recorded 2-1 wins at William Jewell on Friday and No. 8 Rockhurst on Sunday. He tallied both first-half goals in the upset win at Rockhurst. UMSL was held to four shots in the game, all of which were taken by Huelsman. The victory in Kansas City marked the Tritons' second win over a top-10 team in the last 10 days, as they also defeated then No. 4 ranked Drury at home on Oct. 4. The loss gave Rockhurst it's first of the 2013 GLVC season and was the second-straight regular season defeat to UMSL as the Tritons beat then-No. 5 Rockhurst 1-0 in overtime at home last year. This is the first weekly honor for the Waterloo, Ill., native. He is the first Triton to be recognized by the league since
Patrick Ream was named GLVC Player of the Week on Sept. 24, 2012.
UMSL will close out the home portion of its schedule this weekend, hosting Illinois Springfield on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Southern Indiana on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
