ST. LOUIS, MO. – Despite outshooting its opponents, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to visiting Missouri S&T on Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons held a 12-6 advantage in shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal, and had seven corner kicks to the Lady Miners' one.
UMSL slips to 4-5-1 overall with the loss, including 2-5-1 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T moves to 3-3-2 both overall and in the league.
The Lady Miners scored the game-winner in the 31
st minute when Kim Ekholm picked up the ball in the box after the ball bounced off a Triton following a scramble.
UMSL controlled the ball for much of the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Tritons outshot the Lady Miners, 7-2, in the final 45 minutes of play and had six of their corner kicks in that second frame.
Sophomore
Hannah Kaloupek had two shots on goal for UMSL, while senior
Christine Lips played all 90 minutes in between the posts, recording two saves.
UMSL is back on the field Friday night in a 5 p.m. GLVC game at William Jewell.
