Baseball Splits With McKendree to Close Out Home Schedule

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a split against McKendree University on Wednesday afternoon. The Tritons rallied for a 4-2 victory in the opener before suffering a 7-1 setback in the nightcap.
 
UMSL moves to 25-17 with the split, while McKendree is now 19-23.
 
The Tritons will wrap up regular season play this weekend with a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference road series at Quincy. First pitch on Saturday is set for 12 p.m.
 
GAME 1 – UMSL 4, McKendree2 (7 inning game)
Junior Justin Lois had two RBIs to help UMSL score four unanswered runs to erase a 2-0 deficit en route to the win.
 
A Lois RBI groundout and an RBI single from senior Lucas Matecki in the fifth inning allowed the Tritons to knot the score at 2-2, while senior John Pilackas gave UMSL a 3-2 lead in the sixth with a leadoff homer, his second of the year and 12th of his career. Lois' second RBI of the game then scored junior Michael Budka to make it 4-2.
 
Junior Kyle Dermody got the win on the mound, tossing two and one-thirds of an inning, while senior Kyle Renaud picked up his 14th save of the season.
 
UMSL outhit the Bearcats, 8-6.
 
GAME 2 –McKendree 7, UMSL 1 (9 inning game)
The Tritons left 13 runners on base in the loss.
 
The Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, which included two runs in the second inning.
 
The Tritons trimmed that deficit to 3-1 in the fourth inning with Lois' fielder's choice ball allowed Budka to score. The Tritons had a chance to add some more runs, but left the bases loaded to end the frame.
 
McKendree then added four more runs, including three in the sixth inning and one in the seventh, for the final score.
 
Sophomore Chris True took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in five and one-thirds of an inning.
 
Matecki finished 3-for-3 at the plate and reached base in all five plate appearances, while senior Drew Standefer was 2-for-4. McKendree finished with 10 hits to UMSL's seven.
