EVANSVILLE, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday as Lewis handed the Tritons a 9-4 loss at the GLVC Tournament.
UMSL ends its season with a 28-19 record, while Lewis improves to 31-15 and advances to face Bellarmine for the right to play in the GLVC Championship.
The Flyers got on the board in the second inning, before junior
Cody Garlington countered in the top of the third with an RBI groundout that scored senior
Lucas Matecki, knotting the score at 1-1.
However, Lewis struck for six unanswered over the next three innings, pushing the lead to 7-1.
The Tritons got one run back in the top of the seventh when
John Pilackas led off with a triple before scoring on a
Justin Lois sacrifice fly. Lewis answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame, extending the lead to 9-2, while a two-run top of the eighth by UMSL closed the gap to 9-4.
Matecki led off with a double and later scored on an RBI single from
Paul Richmond. Richmond then advanced to third on a
Drew Standefer single before scoring on an RBI groundout from freshman
Paul Moritz.
Junior
Jonathan Rosario suffered the loss, allowing five runs on 10 hits in four and one-thirds of an inning.
Lewis out-hit UMSL, 15-8. Matecki finished with two hits, including a double, and scored two runs, while Garlington also had two hits, including a double.
