ST. LOUIS, MO.– The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team used a 20-5 run to end the game, helping the Tritons erase an 11-point deficit en route to a 68-64 win over William Jewell on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Cardinals used a 13-2 run to post a 59-48 advantage with 7:09 to play before UMSL's spurt to close out the contest. UMSL was 7-of-9 from the field during its run, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and took a 63-62 lead they would not relinquish on a
Tylor Wimbish bucket with 2:34 to play. UMSL then held on for the win by netting 3-of-5 free throws in the final 27 seconds.
Wimbish, who was celebrating his birthday today, scored 17 of his game-high 18 points in the second half, while senior
Darian Cartharn finished with 17 points off the bench.
The Tritons improve to 11-7 overall, including 5-5 in the GLVC, while William Jewell slips to 7-11 and 3-7 in the league.
UMSL overcame slow starts to open both halves. The Cardinals raced out to a 10-0 lead in the start of the contest, while UMSL missed its first four field goals before senior
Michael Weber drained a three-point basket at the 16:47 mark to put the Tritons on the board. UMSL closed out the half by outscoring the Cardinals, 26-18, to take a 29-28 lead into halftime.
William Jewell then opened the second half with a 10-2 scoring advantage, taking a 38-31 lead at the 16:46 mark.
The Tritons shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 57.1 percent in the second half, and recorded a season-best 24 assists on 28 field goals with Weber and junior
Neil Branham dishing out five each. William Jewell shot 40.7 percent and owned a 39-33 rebounding advantage, including a 10-5 edge on the offensive end, which gave the Cardinals a 15-2 margin in second chance points.

Aareon Smith came off the bench to grab seven rebounds, while senior
Femi John pulled down six.
The Tritons are back in action on Saturday, hosting Rockhurst at 3 p.m.
