SETTING THE SCENE
UMSL closes out the regular season at Maryville on Thursday night. The Tritons clinched their bid to the GLVC Tournament with an 80-65 win over Truman State last Saturday in the home finale and are now playing for seeding in the league's annual postseason affair. A win would give UMSL the No. 8 seed and a first round home game, while a loss could potentially send the Tritons on the road, depending on the outcomes of other games.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL is 14-11 overall, including 8-9 in the GLVC, having snapped a four-game losing streak with the win over Truman State. The Tritons sit in third place in the West Division standings, one game ahead of Missouri S&T, William Jewell and Maryville. Junior
Tylor Wimbish leads the Tritons with 14.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 59.3 percent from the field. He has scored in double figures in 12 straight games. Senior
Femi John adds 12.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while senior
Darian Cartharn follows with 10.3 points per game.
FOURTH STRAIGHT WINNING SEASON
The Tritons secured their fourth straight winning season last Saturday night, something that hasn't been done since the first four years of the program (1966-70).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Maryville is 13-12 overall, including 7-10 in the GLVC and is coming off a 75-58 win at Quincy last Saturday. Asa Toney and Armon Provo provide the one-two scoring punch, averaging 15.2 and 14.6 points per game, respectively, for the Saints. Maryville is last in the GLVC in scoring offense (72.4 points per game), but is second in scoring defense (68.9 points per game).
THE SERIES
UMSL is 14-2 against Maryville with both losses coming last season. The Tritons won the first meeting this season, a 74-69 win at home on Dec. 1.

The Tritons took a 40-23 lead into halftime and held a 20-point lead twice in the second half before Maryville pulled within 70-67 with 37 seconds remaining. However, a steal by John, followed by a pair of free throws, with 21 seconds to play helped seal the victory.
