Baseball Splits With Indianapolis; Tritons Rally For 4-3 Win in Opener

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team closed out a four-game series against Indianapolis on Saturday with a split. The Tritons scored twice in the seventh inning to rally back for a 4-3 win in the opener, while the Greyhounds took the nightcap, 4-1.
 
UMSL moves to 3-6 overall, including 1-3 in the GLVC, and will return to the field on Wednesday in a single game at McKendree.
 
UMSL 4, Indianapolis 3 (7 innings)
The Tritons rallied for the win with two runs in the seventh, including the game-winner from freshman Jake Beckwith.
 
Beckwith delivered a two-out high fly single that dropped in short center, allowing pinch runner Rob Hoffman to score from second to knot the game at 3-3. After pinch hitter Derek Steiner walked, senior Justin Lois delivered the game-winning hit, which slipped through the left side defense, allowing Beckwith to come home.
 
UMSL took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with RBI singles from senior Paul Richmond and Beckwith, while UIndy got on the board in the top of the fifth, plating three runs on four hits.
 
Junior Matt Meyer was credited with the win on the mound, allowing just one hit in two and one-thirds of an inning. Junior Zach Sedlack went four and two-thirds of an inning in the start, allowing all three Greyhounds runs on five hits, while striking out six.
 
Prior to UMSL's seventh inning heroics, the Tritons had stranded nine base runners, including three in the sixth. UMSL finished with 11 hits, including two each from Beckwith, Lois and junior Jose Ortiz.
 
Indianapolis 4, UMSL 1 (9 innings)
UMSL scored its lone run in the second inning with a sac fly from Beckwith. Indianapolis then tied it in the top of the third before scoring the game-winner in the fifth. The Greyhounds then plated two insurance runs in the ninth.
 
UIndy recorded 12 hits in the win, while Jordan Tackett tossed the complete game six-hitter.
 
Richmond and senior Cody Garlington had two hits each.
 
Junior Luke Hayes took the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits in five and one-thirds of an inning.
