LEBANON, ILL. – Host McKendree used a nine-run fifth inning to post a 10-6 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team on Wednesday afternoon.
The rally erased a 3-0 lead built by the Tritons, which fall to 3-7 on the season with the loss.
Senior
Tyler Bunge led UMSL with three hits, including two doubles, and scored all four of the Tritons runs. Senior
Michael Budka added two hits and two RBIs as UMSL tallied eight hits as a team.
Budka recorded his first RBI single in the first inning, while senior
Joe Wieckowski added an RBI on a walk. Budka then made it 3-0 in the fourth, scoring Bunge with a double.
The Bearcats sent 13 batters to the plate in the fifth, recording five hits, while taking advantage of three UMSL errors. McKendree added another run in the sixth to extend its advantage to 10-3.
An RBI single from senior
Derek Steiner in the seventh pulled the Tritons within 10-4 before two runs crossed the plate in the ninth inning on a Bearcats error for the final score.
Senior
Nick Dorsey took the loss, allowing five runs, including just two earned, on five hits in four innings.
McKendree (5-5) finished with nine hits and only scored three earned runs as UMSL committed four errors.
UMSL is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, hosting Wisconsin-Parkside in a GLVC doubleheader. The series was originally to be played in Kenosha, Wis., but poor field conditions there have prompted the move.
