LIBERTY, MO. – Senior Michael Budka and junior Daniel Seddon each had four hits as the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team collected a pair of one-run victories at William Jewell on Saturday in the start of a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series. The Tritons won the opener, 4-3, before taking the nightcap, 2-1.
 
UMSL improves to 12-10 overall, including 10-6 in the GLVC, while William Jewell slips to 8-18 overall and 6-10 in the league.
 
The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
 
UMSL 4, William Jewell 3 (9 innings)
Budka collected all four of his hits in the opener, including a solo homerun in the fourth inning that gave the Tritons a 2-0 advantage.
 
William Jewell tied it in the fourth before senior Cody Garlington used an RBI single in the sixth to make it 3-2 Tritons. The Cardinals again knotted the score in the seventh before senior Philip Landwehr drove in junior Jose Ortiz in the ninth inning for the game-winner.
 
Seddon and Landwehr each finished with two hits, while senior Paul Richmond also recorded two hits and added an RBI, driving in UMSL's first run of the game with a first inning single. The Tritons tallied a season-best 13 hits, including three doubles.
 
Senior Zach Standefer tossed the complete game victory, scattering seven hits.
 
UMSL 2, William Jewell 1 (7 innings)
Senior Jonathan Rosario improved his record to 4-0 on the mound, picking up the win in four innings, while senior Kyle Dermody tallied his second save of the season with two perfect innings of relief work.
 
Offensively, the Tritons recorded seven hits and scored single runs in the first and second innings. Senior Tyler Bunge drove in the first run, while senior Justin Lois brought in the second run.
 
Bunge and Seddon had two hits each.
