Box Score SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout on Sunday with a 2-0 victory at Illinois Springfield in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons improve to 5-1 overall, including 3-1 in the GLVC, while the Prairie Stars slip to 2-4 and 0-4 in the league.
Both UMSL goals came in the second half with junior
Laura Hurlbut scoring in the 50
th minute and junior
Kali Thomas adding an insurance goal in the 84
th minute.
Hurlbut's shot went over the top of the defense and deflected off UIS keeper Paige Polonus into the net for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Junior
Cassie McFadden assisted on the play.
Thomas' score was her first goal of the season and came after she intercepted the pass back and put it past Polonus.
UMSL recorded 14 shots, landing four on goal, while Illinois Springfield tallied 11 shots, also recording four on goal. Hurlbut led the squad with three shot attempts.
Junior
Megan Ohm registered three saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal.
UMSL returns home on Friday, hosting Rockhurst at 5 p.m.
