SIZING UP THE TRITONSUMSL is coming off a 14-14 record during the 2014-15 season, which included a 9-9 Great Lakes Valley Conference mark. The Tritons reached their second straight GLVC Tournament Quarterfinals and are tabbed to finish fourth in the league's West Division in the preseason poll following a vote of the coaches. Six players return from that team, while Vaughn also welcomes six newcomers to the mix.
UMSL played one preseason exhibition contest, falling to NCAA DI Bradley, 78-65. Despite the loss, the Tritons out-scored the Braves, 42-35, in the final 20 minutes of play. Senior
Kelly Kunkel led UMSL with 21 points and five rebounds, while junior transfer
Robneisha Lee added 17 points and four rebounds. The duo combined to go 17-of-18 at the free throw line, with Lee netting all eight attempts and Kunkel going 11-of-12, as the Tritons were 24-of-27 (.889) at the charity strip in the game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTSGeorgetown College enters a Friday contest at Columbia College with a 2-1 record. Hayey Armstrong averages 12.0 points and 2.3 assists per game, while Teonia McCune adds 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. The Tigers are shooting 43.2 percent from the field and have made 19 three-pointers in three games.
