The fourth-seeded Tritons will face top-seeded Bellarmine at 6:30 p.m. (EST), while the other semifinal contest, featuring No. 2 Truman State vs. No. 3 Quincy, begins at 3:55 p.m. (EST). Winners of both games will meet at 12 p.m. (EST) on Sunday in the championship game.
TRITONS IN THE GLVC TOURNAMENTUMSL has an all-time record of 11-11-1 in GLVC Tournament games… the Tritons are in their first GLVC Tournament since 2011… UMSL is in its first GLVC Tournament semifinal game since 2007… the Tritons have made four championship game appearances, but have yet to hoist the trophy… UMSL's No. 4 seed this season is its highest since it was the No. 2 seed in 2002.
SIZING UP THE TRITONSUMSL is 11-3-4 overall, the program's most wins since the 2007 team finished 12-7-3. The Tritons went 8-3-4 in the GLVC, equaling the most GLVC wins along with the 2006, 2005 and 2000 teams. UMSL is coming off a 2-1 overtime win over Drury in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals, rallying from a 1-0 deficit. Junior
Kayla Delgado scored in the 16
th minute to tie the game, while junior
Miriam Taylor netted the game-winner 4:20 into the extra period.
Taylor owns a team-best 11 goals, four of which are game-winners, while 15 different players have at least one goal. Freshman
McKayla Harder follows with nine goals, while Delgado has scored seven goals. The Tritons have netted 48 goals this season, outscoring their opponents, 48-11, and rank 20
th in NCAA DII in goals scored. They are also ninth nationally in total assists (42), led by senior
Sidney Allen's eight, and rank 14
th in DII in total points (138).
Defensively, senior
Megan Ohm ranks 21
st in NCAA DII in goals against average (0.592) and has a save percentage of 0.830.
The Tritons are coached by second-year head coach
Wendy Dillinger, who is 19-11-5 at UMSL. In 14 years as a collegiate head coach, Dillinger sports a record of 147-94-24, which includes six seasons at NCAA DI Iowa State and six seasons at NCAA DIII Washington University in St. Louis.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTSBellarmine moved up to No. 13 in this week's NSCAA DII Poll and owns an overall record of 16-1-2, which included a GLVC mark of 12-1-2. The Knights, the regular season GLVC champion, are led by Mary Beth Gorham's team-best 12 goals, seven of which are game-winners. Bellarmine has outscored its opponents, 29-8, and ranks ninth in NCAA DII in goals against average (.407). Keeper Taylor Smith is 14
th nationally with a 0.493 goals against average and sports a .854 save percentage.
EARLIER THIS SEASON AGAINST BELLARMINEUMSL and Bellarmine played to a 2-2 double overtime on October 23 in St. Louis, with all four goals being scored in the first half. Junior
Kayla Delgado put the Tritons on the board less than three minutes into the contest, while the Knights answered in the 10
th minute. Freshman
McKayla Harder found the back of the net in the 25
th minute for a 2-1 UMSL lead, but Bellarmine once again answered in the 34
th minute. UMSL held a 13-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal.
THE REST OF THE TOURNAMENT FIELDUMSL drew a 1-1 double overtime tie at then No. 6 ranked Quincy to open the GLVC schedule on September 11 in Quincy, Ill. Junior
Miriam Taylor scored the equalizer in the 59
th minute. The Tritons outshot Quincy, 23-20, in the game, including 11-6 in the second half, and finished the contest with 12 shots on goal to the Hawks' seven. Senior
Megan Ohm made six saves in goal.
The Tritons lost a 1-0 decision to Truman State in their home opener on September 13, despite out-shooting the visiting Bulldogs, 16-6.
