SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team belted out 13 hits and equaled a season-high 13 runs en route to a 13-3 victory at Illinois Springfield on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game.
The Tritons got out to an early lead with five runs in the second inning and plated their final eight during innings six, seven and eight, including a four-run sixth.
UMSL improves to 21-11 overall and will return to action this weekend in a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series at home against Truman State.
Sophomore
Jake Beckwith finished with three hits and scored two runs, while junior
Justin Busekrus recorded two hits, three RBIs and two runs. He recorded his team-leading fifth homerun in the sixth inning on a three-run shot to right center. Junior
Jarret Clark also homered for the third time this season, his coming in the eighth inning on a two-run blast.
Senior
Daniel Seddon registered just one hit – a two-run single in the second inning, but finished with three RBIs after brining in a run in the sixth with a groundout.
Sophomore
Kevin Smith scored three runs.
Senior
Luke Hayes earned the win on the mound in the start, going two innings, and was one of five Triton pitchers on the day, which combined to scatter 10 hits, strike out six, including three from senior
Chris True, and walk just two.
