ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior
Kyle Wilson completed his first start for the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Wednesday afternoon with a no-hitter against visiting Lincoln in a 10-0 victory for the Tritons. The Tritons also sealed the sweep with a walk off eight inning 5-4 win in game two as UMSL closed out its home schedule.
Wilson's no-hitter was the first for UMSL since Bob Kavran no-hit Bellarmine on April 21, 2000, and is just the seventh in program history.
Wilson entered the contest with a 6.00 ERA in six appearances and was one error away from a perfect game.
Offensively, senior
Shane Brinker combined for five hits and six runs scored in the two wins, while fellow senior
JJ Kinnevan added four hits and five RBIs.
UMSL moves to 25-13 overall and will wrap up the regular season this weekend with a four-game GLVC series at West Division leader Quincy on Saturday and Sunday. Lincoln ends its season at 3-47.
GAME 1: UMSL 10, Lincoln 0The Tritons scored 10 runs on 11 hits and received a huge boost from the top three hitters in the lineup which combined for eight hits, five RBIs and eight runs scored. Kinnevan went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs, while Brinker was also 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four runs. Junior
Justin Busekrus added two hits, two RBIs and two runs.
GAME 2: UMSL 5, Lincoln 4 (8 inn.)Brinker delivered a sharp hit ball that was misplayed by Lincoln's third baseman with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, allowing sophomore
Kevin Smith to score safely from third for the game-winner.
Lincoln took an early 3-0 lead after two innings before the Kinnevan pulled the Tritons within 3-2 with a two-run homer, his second of the season. The long ball also scored Brinker who tripled with two outs.
UMSL pulled even with the Blue Tigers in the fourth as an error and a walk put a pair of runners on base for junior
Zach Herman, who drove one in with a single to right field and took the 4-3 lead in the fifth on a Busekrus RBI single.
However, Lincoln got a lead off hit off Tritons closer
Austin Simokaitis in the seventh with the run eventually scoring to make it 4-4 to force the extra play.
Simokaitis stayed in the game and ended up with the win, improving to 5-1, in two innings of work.
Offensively, the Tritons tallied nine hits, including two from Brinker, who also scored another two runs, while Smith also recorded two hits, including a leadoff single to the pitcher in the winning inning.
