QUINCY, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team saw its regular season come to an end on Sunday with a pair of losses at Quincy. The host Hawks won by scores of 11-7 and 3-2.
The Tritons finish with a 25-17 record, including 17-17 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The four losses at Quincy keeps the Tritons out of the 2015 GLVC Tournament, which will be held next week.
The four-game series sweep for Quincy gives the Hawks the GLVC West Division title and moves their ledger to 35-14, including 26-9 in the league.
GAME 1: Quincy 11, UMSL 7The Tritons out-hit the Haws, 11-10, but had three errors that led to nine unearned runs.
Junior
Kurt McGuire was tagged with the loss in the complete game effort. Quincy scored six runs in the second inning, all of which came after a two-out UMSL error.
Of UMSL's 11 hits, five were for extra base, including home runs from senior
Dylan Fieth and junior
Justin Busekrus, who finished with three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Senior
JJ Kinnevan added three hits and two runs scored.
GAME 2: Quincy 3, UMSL 2Quincy took a 3-0 lead into the eighth before the Tritons got on the board, scoring a pair of unearned runs thanks to a Hawks fielding error.
UMSL put the go ahead run on base in the top of the ninth and left the tying run at third base.
The Tritons were limited to three hits, but drew seven walks and put two runners on by way of hit by pitch.
Fieth got on base three times, once with a single and once by a walk, but was stranded all three times as UMSL left 10 runners stranded.
Quincy recorded 12 hits, including 10 off starter
Luke Hayes in six and one-thirds of an inning.
