Two Three-Run Homers Power Softball to Season-Opening Victory

GULF SHORES, ALA.  – The No. 7 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team received three-run homers from junior Sara Kern and sophomore Jennah Perryman en route to a season-opening 8-6 victory over West Florida on Friday evening at the Gulf Coast Invitational.

All eight Triton runs came in the third inning. UMSL took advantage of two West Florida errors to score a pair of early runs before Kern's shot made it 5-0, while Perryman followed suit for an 8-0 advantage.

The Argonauts delivered three-run homers in the fourth and seventh innings off of senior Hannah Perryman, who collected the complete game victory with nine strikeouts. Perryman surrendered six hits, while walking four in her 84th career victory.

Offensively, the Tritons tallied eight hits, including two from junior Rachel Matthies.

UMSL returns to the field tomorrow with two contests, beginning at 2:30 p.m. against Southern Nazarene. The Tritons then face Lee at 4:45 p.m.
