Softball Tallies 19 Hits in Sweep of William Jewell

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 6 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team recorded 19 hits in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference victories over visiting William Jewell on Friday afternoon. The Tritons won game one, 8-0, in five innings and took game two, 11-1, in six innings.
 
Junior Alex Stupek finished with four hits, including two home runs, and added five RBIs, while scoring four runs.
 
The Tritons improve to 31-2 overall, including 9-1 in GLVC play, while William Jewell slips to 11-15 and 3-7 in the league.
 
UMSL continues its current eight-game homestand tomorrow, hosting Rockhurst in a pair of GLVC contests beginning at Noon.
 
GAME 1: UMSL 8, William Jewell 0 (5 inn.)
Senior Hannah Perryman broke her own single season record with her 18th shutout of the year, tossing the complete-game one-hitter behind 11 strikeouts.
 
Offensively, the Tritons recorded nine hits, including two from Stupek, including a solo home run in the fourth inning. Stupek also added an RBI in a three-run second inning, in which junior Sara Kern drove in the other two runs with a single.
 
UMSL took advantage of a two-out dropped fly ball by the Cardinals in the first inning to score three runs, one coming on an RBI single from sophomore Rachel Matthies.
 
Matthies finished with two hits and two RBIs, driving in the eighth run in the fourth inning.
 
Senior Erin Walker also recorded two hits, both doubles.
 
GAME 2: UMSL 11, William Jewell 1 (6 inn.)
The Tritons recorded three home runs in the win – all coming in the fifth and sixth innings, in which UMSL outscored the Cardinals, 8-0. Solo home runs in the fifth inning courtesy of senior Erin Walker and Stupek extended the advantage to 5-1, while six runs came home in the sixth inning, including three on Kern's long ball that ended the game on the run-rule.
 
UMSL tallied 10 hits, including two from Stupek, who added three RBIs and two runs scored, and junior Ryan Logan, who also scored two runs.
 
Perryman surrendered a solo home run in the top of the second – just her second hit allowed on the day, but Perryman's offense picked her up in the bottom of the frame, scoring three runs all with two outs as sophomore Jennah Perryman, Matthies and freshman Reagan Osborn all recorded consecutive RBI singles.
 
H. Perryman improved to 26-1 with the win, scattering just two hits while striking out 12.
