Tritons Defeat the Visiting Hawks and Gusty Winds to Get Two GLVC Wins

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 6 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis battled through extreme wind conditions to garner two victories over Quincy on Saturday as the Tritons closed out an eight-game homestand.

UMSL posted a 6-1 victory in the opener before holding on for a 9-6 win in the capper. The Tritons improve to 36-3 overall, including 14-2 in the GLVC, while Quincy dips to 12-16 and 7-9 in the league.

With sustained winds near 30 miles per hour throughout the day, gusting to 40 in game two, the two teams combined to hit seven home runs, including four from the Tritons. UMSL finished the day with a slight 16-15 advantage in hits. Sophomore Jennah Perryman went 4-for-6 at the plate with a double and a home run.

Senior Hannah Perryman picked up both wins in the circle, improving to 31-1 on the year, breaking her own single season record for wins in a season. She struck out 17 on the day, moving her career strikeout total to 1,525, needing 15 more to break the NCAA Division II career record.

UMSL begins a six-game roadswing tomorrow with a doubleheader at Truman State.

GAME 1: UMSL 6, Quincy 1
UMSL scored six unanswered to rally for the win after a wind-aided solo home run from Quincy gave the Hawks an early 1-0 advantage in the second inning.

Senior Erin Walker gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish with a two-run homer in the third inning, while in the fourth, freshman Serena Olsson delivered a two-out, two-run single. The final two runs came off the bat of junior Sara Kern in the sixth inning with a two-run home run, her team-leading 10th of the year.

UMSL tallied seven hits, including two each from J. Perryman and Kern.

GAME 2: UMSL 9, Quincy 6
The Tritons jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after two innings, scoring four in the first inning. Three of those runs came from junior Alex Stupek's towering home run, which went over the scoreboard in left center. It was her 36th career long ball, putting her in a tie for third place on the program's charts.

Two-run home runs- both with two outs - by the Hawks in the third and fifth innings quickly brought Quincy within 7-4, but UMSL received an sac fly from junior Rachel Matthies in the fifth and a solo home run from J. Perryman in the sixth to make it 9-4.

The Hawks tacked on two more runs in the seventh for the final score, finishing the game with 12 hits off H. Perryman, who struck out six and walked one.
