SETTING THE SCENE
It's back to the road for UMSL, who heads north for a weekend of GLVC play. The Tritons travel to No. 19 ranked Lewis on Thursday and to Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday. UMSL will then play its third game in five days on Monday, traveling across town to Maryville.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL improved to 7-5 overall last Saturday when it held on for a 54-53 win over Saint Joseph's. The Tritons scored the final go-ahead bucket at the 2:59 mark on a three-pointer from senior
Chelsey Jacox, while the Pumas missed the potential game-winner on a shot in the paint as time expired.
The Tritons are 2-2 in the conference and sit in fourth place in the West Division standings.
UMSL is 5-1 in road games. The Tritons went 4-0 in non-conference road contests and are 1-1 in GLVC road games, falling at then No. 14 Drury and winning at Missouri S&T.
UMSL ranks sixth in the GLVC with a scoring defense of 59.8 points and has held five opponents to fewer than 55 points.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
Sophomore transfer
Laura Szorenyi averages a team-best 14.9 points per game, which ranks 10th in the GLVC, and has reached double figures in all 11 contests she has played in. Szorenyi is coming off her best shooting performance of the season, knocking down 6-of-9 field goals against Saint Joseph's, including 4-of-6 from three-point range.
Junior
Jordan Fletcher follows with 11.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, while shooting 64.4 percent from the field. She ranks second in the GLVC in field goal percentage and blocked shots. Fletcher was limited to 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) shooting last weekend, averaging 10.0 points per game.
Senior
Robneisha Lee adds 9.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game. and shoots a team-best 74.1 percent (40-of-54) from the free-throw line.
CAREER WORTHY
Fletcher's current career shooting percentage of 57.7 is a program best, while her 82 career blocked shots are third most.
TRITON TIDBITS:
- Junior
Shawnta Johnson averages a team-best 7.7 rebounds. She has pulled down double-figures four times and is coming off a career-best 14 boards in the win over Saint Joseph's. Johnson has also scored in double figures in three of the last four outings. Â
- Senior
Chelsey Jacox is averaging 27.0 minutes per game in the last four contests after playing a total of seven minutes in the first eight games of the season. She has also scored in double figures in three of those four games, averaging 10.3 points per game during that stretch.
- The Tritons' best quarter has been the fourth in which they have tallied 214 points (17.8) and outscored the opposition 214-172 (+42).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Lewis, ranked No. 19 nationally, is 12-3 overall, including 4-1 in the GLVC and sit in third place in the East Division standings. The Flyers are 7-1 overall and in GLVC-only games are holding opponents to 56.6 points, which ranks second. Lewis leads the league in conference-only games in rebounding margin (+7.2).
UW-Parkside enters a Thursday contest against Maryville with a 3-10 overall record, including a 1-4 GLVC mark, while Maryville is 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the league.
SERIES RECORDS
Lewis owns a 23-7 series record and has won the last four meetings... UW-Parkside leads the series, 17-11 although UMSL has won two of the last three, including a 67-61 victory in St. Louis last year... the Tritons are 11-8 all-time against Maryville and swept the Saints last season, winning 74-61 at home and 62-60 on the road.

Following its three-game roadswing, UMSL will return home to host Quincy (Thurs., Jan. 19) and Quincy (Sat., Jan. 21).
