SETTING THE SCENE
UMSL continues GLVC Tournament play on Friday with a quarterfinal round contest against Lewis at 8:30 p.m. in Evansville, Ind. The Tritons advanced to the quarterfinals with a 58-43 win over Saint Joseph's last Sunday in a first round game.
UMSL is the No. 6 seed in the field of eight teams in Evansville, while Lewis, which earned a first round bye, is seeded third. The two teams met in Romeoville, Ill., January 12, where the then No. 19 ranked Flyers used a buzzer beating shot to fend off the Tritons for the 70-68 win.
UMSL IN THE GLVC TOURNAMENT
UMSL is 6-11 in GLVC Tournament games... the Tritons have advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time in the last four years... UMSL has two semifinal apperances (2000 and 1999)... the Tritons are meeting the Flyers in the GLVC Tournament for the first time.

Junior
Shawnta Johnson knocked down a game-tying three-pointer from the top of the key with 6.4 seconds to play, but Lewis' Jessica Kelliher scored the game-winner three seconds later as the No. 19 ranked Flyers avoided an upset with a 70-68 win.
A 12-2 start to the third quarter by the Flyers gave Lewis its biggest lead of the game at 45-34 at the 6:11 mark, but the Tritons ended the stanza on a 21-8 run for a 55-53 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
Sophomore
Laura Szorenyi scored 20 points for UMSL, while junior
Jordan Fletcher added 19. The Tritons shot 40 percent and held a 32-26 rebounding advantage, including a 9-2 edge on the offensive end, while Lewis shot 54 percent.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL has won seven of its last eight contests... the Tritons' 16 wins are their most wins since the 2013-14 team finished 21-8 in head coach
Katie Vaughn's second season... UMSL was 10-8 in GLVC play, finishing in a three-way tie for third in the West Division... UMSL has played just one neutral site game, a 72-66 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan in its second game of the year in Nashville, Tenn... the Tritons are 2-3 against ranked teams, having defeated then No. 20 Southern Indiana (66-59) and then No. 17 Bellarmine (58-57) in back-to-back home games.
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
The Tritons have limited nine opponents to fewer than 55 points this season and 12 opponents to fewer than 60 points. Their last two opponents (Maryville and Saint Joseph's) combined to average 44 points. UMSL's scoring defense of 60.0 is second in the GLVC. Â

- Has led the team in scoring 13 times, has nine 20-plus scoring games and has recorded five double-doubles.

- Has started last nine games in which the Tritons are 7-2.
- Averaged just 14.2 minutes per game in first 17 games of the year.
- Averaging 3.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
Sammie Sproul | junior | guard
- Has started all 27 games at point guard, averaging 4.4 points and 1.3 assists per game.
- Second on team with 26 three-pointers.
OFF THE BENCH
Shawnta Johnson | junior | guard
- Has appeared in 20 games, averaging 6.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
- Has recorded two double-doubles and has six games of double-digit rebounds.

Chelsey Jacox | graduate student | guard
- Has appeared in 21 games, averaging 6.2 points and 1.6 assists per game.
- Shooting 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from three-point range and is 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) at free throw line.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Lewis is 21-7 overall, but enters the GLVC Tournament having lost two of its last three regular season games. The Flyers finished with a 13-5 GLVC record, tying for third in the East Division. GLVC Player of the Year Jessica Kelliher averages a league-best 20 points per game to go with 7.4 rebounds. She also tops the league with a 66.4 shooting percentage. Lewis averages 71.4 points per game and shoots a GLVC-best 48.4 percent from the field.
