Tritons, Prairie Stars Play to 1-1 Double Overtime Tie

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team drew a 1-1 double overtime tie against visiting Illinois Springfield Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
Freshman Samed Ganibegovic scored in the first half for UMSL, while the Prairie Stars scored in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ganibegovic tallied his first goal of the season in the 38th minute, taking the headed pass from sophomore Carter Cassell in the box and firing to the far left corner.
- The Prairie Stars wasted no time knotting the score early in the second half, scoring on a header in the box off a free kick in the 50th minute.
- UIS looked to have taken a 2-1 lead a couple minutes later but the goal was called off with the Prairie Stars being offsides.
- Senior and team-leading scorer Pat Ries hit the crossbar with just over eight minutes to play in regulation after breaking free from the defense.
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- UMSL finished with 13 shots, including two on goal, while UIS took 12 shots, placing six on goal.
- Junior Oscar Gordillo and senior Nick Werner took two shots, each placing one on goal, while senior Pim Boonstra and Nick Werner also had two each.
- Senior Jake Schmidt played all 110 minutes in goal, making four saves, including one early in the second overtime in which he punched out the ball and one late in the final minutes when he stopped a point blank shot from 12 yards out.
