QUINCY, ILL. – Quincy converted a penalty kick with 17 seconds to play in double overtime to secure a 1-0 win over the visiting University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Hawks were granted the penalty kick after the Tritons were called for a handball in the box.
UMSL falls to 3-4-2 overall, including 3-3-1 in the GLVC, while Quincy improves to 4-4 and 3-3 in the league.
The Hawks outshot the Tritons, 10-7, but UMSL held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Sophomore
Donald Link had a shot that hit the crossbar in the first overtime for UMSL, while senior
Pim Boonstra had a shot on goal that was saved in the final 45 seconds.
Boonstra finished with three shots, all on target. He had the Tritons' lone shot of the first half, in which there was a combined five shots, including four by Quincy.
UMSL returns to action Sunday, traveling to Truman State at Noon.
