SETTING THE SCENE
Fresh off its first win of the season last Saturday (an 88-62 victory over Purdue Northwest), the Tritons will look to stay in the win column when they host future GLVC member Southwest Baptist on Monday at 5 p.m. and Kentucky State on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
UMSL picked up its 15th straight victory inside the Mark Twain Building, dating back to 2016-17, with Saturday's win.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
- Three players are averaging double-figures, including senior Arielle Jackson (12.0 ppg), sophomore Alex LaPorta (11.0 ppg) and senior Kaitlynn Henning (10.8 ppg).
- LaPorta is coming off her first double-double of the season and the ninth of her career with a career-high 20 points and 14 rebounds in Saturday's win. She is averaging 9.0 rebounds per game and also leads the team with 2.75 steals per game.
- Redshirt junior Laura Szorenyi missed her first free-throw attempt of the season on Saturday. She is 18-of-19 (.947) at the charity stripe.
- UMSL is shooting 80.6 percent from the charity stripe as a team. The school record for team free throw percentage in a season is 74.8 percent.
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
Freshman
McKenzie Lathrom is coming off a 27-point effort against Purdue Northwest. Lathrom, who netted 16 of her points in the first half, finished 9-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. She also collected six steals.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Southwest Baptist
The Bearcats are 2-2. They've played one other GLVC opponent, falling at Drury, 92-81. Four players average double figures for SBU, which is shooting 47 percent from the field.
Kentucky State
The Thorobreds own a 3-0 record, but host Alabama-Huntsville before visiting St. Louis. Kentucky State has outscored its first three opponents by an average of 15.4 points. They are shooting 40.4 percent from the field, but just 29.3 percent (12-of-41) from three-point range.
SERIES HISTORIES
UMSL is 10-13 all-time against Southwest Baptist. The two teams have not meet since the 2006-07 season, which the Bearcats won, 78-65.
UMSL defeated Kentucky State, 65-55, last season in the first meeting. LaPorta has 13 points and 14 rebounds in that game, while Jackson also reached double figures with 12 points. The Tritons scored the game's final 10 points en route to collecting that victory.
UP NEXT
UMSL begins GLVC play next week, hosting McKendree on Thursday (Nov. 30) and Illinois Springfield on Saturday (Dec. 1).
