SETTING THE SCENE
After a week of two early GLVC games, UMSL returns to the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday, hosting Lindenwood Belleville, a member of the NAIA.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
- UMSL is off to a 7-2 start, which includes a 1-1 mark in the GLVC.
- The Tritons had a four-game win streak snapped in their last outing, an 83-74 setback to Illinois Springfield in a contest that saw UMSL commit a season-high 19 turnovers.
- Senior Johnathan Matthews is averaging 20.3 points per game in the last three outings, while shooting 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from three-point range.
- Matthews is second on the team in scoring (13.6) and is joined in double figures by junior Ronnie Carson (14.1 ppg) and senior Eric Dust (13.4 ppg).
- The Tritons are shooting 50.6 percent from the field, which ranks second in the GLVC. Redshirt junior Jason Towery is connecting at a 65.5 percent clip, which is third individually in the league.
- Matthews leads the GLVC in free-throw shooting percentage at 94.1 percent, while sophomore Shane Wissink is tops in steals with 2.44 thefts per game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Lindenwood Belleville is just 1-6, but picked up its first win on Saturday with an upset of NAIA No. 6 ranked Columbia College, 68-65. This came after the Lynx lost a 77-66 decision to the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, which snapped a 107 game losing streak by the Euts. UMSL defeated the College of Pharmacy, 92-80, earlier this season. The Lynx are shooting just 33.4 percent from the field and averaging 59.6 points per game.
SERIES HISTORY
UMSL has won the other two meetings against Lindenwood-Belleville, including a 74-58 win in 2011-12 and a 74-61 victory in 2010-11.
