Men's Basketball Set to Host UIndy and Missouri S&T

SETTING THE SCENE
Fresh off two road wins last weekend, UMSL returns home this week to host Indianapolis and Missouri S&T on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The Tritons will play four of their final six games in the friendly confines of the Mark Twain Building.    

SIZING UP THE TRITONS
UMSL improved to 11-10 overall, including 6-6 in the GLVC... the Tritons sit in second place in the GLVC Central Division standings and are seventh in the GLVC Point Rating System, which is being used to determine the eight qualifying teams for the 2018 GLVC Tournament... UMSL is 6-3 at home, including 3-2 in league games... all 12 players have started at least one game and all average at least 12 minutes per game.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
• UMSL is second in the league and 29th in DII in scoring defense (68.0 ppg).
• The Tritons are second in the league and 49th nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense (33 percent)

Senior Steven Davis averages 11 points per game and is coming off a career-high 26 points in last Saturday's win at UW-Parkside. He has 52 made three-pointers.

Junior Johnathan Matthews adds 10.7 points per game, while senior Elijah Watson follows with 10.5 points per game. Watson also averages a GLVC-best 5.4 assists per game, which ranks 36th in NCAA DII, and has surpassed the century mark for total assists for the second straight season with 102 this year.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Indianapolis improved to 14-7 overall, including 8-5 in the GLVC, with home wins over McKendree and Maryville last weekend. The Greyhounds' last three games have been decided by five points or less. They are 3-3 in road games. Ajay Lawton is the reigning GLVC Player of the Week and averages 14.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game.

Missouri S&T, which has a GLVC bye on Thursday is 2-19 overall, including 0-13 in the GLVC and 0-9 in road games.

SERIES HISTORIES
UMSL is 6-23 all-time against Indianapolis and has lost eight straight, including two games last year. The Greyhounds posted a 64-57 win during the regular season and a 76-63 victory in first round action of the GLVC Tournament.

The Tritons lead Missouri S&T, 38-27, all-time, but split with the Miners last year, each team winning on the road. UMSL won in Rolla, 91-74, while the Miners earned a 69-66 win in St. Louis.

UMSL is at McKendree next Thursday and hosts Illinois Springfield next Saturday on Senior Day.
