Women's Basketball Faces No. 3 Drury in GLVC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday

SETTING THE SCENE
UMSL will play in the program's third-ever GLVC Tournament semifinal game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., when the No. 4 seed Tritons take on top-seeded and No. 3 ranked Drury with the winner advancing to Sunday's league championship game at 1 p.m.
 
UMSL posted a 77-47 win over No. 5 seed Bellarmine on Thursday night in one of four quarterfinal round games, while the Panthers down eighth-seeded McKendree, 86-54. The other semifinal game features No. 2 Southern Indiana vs. No. 3 Lewis.
 
The Tritons have never played in a GLVC Championship game.
 
SEASON OF RECORDS
  • The Tritons have won a program co-best 14 straight games, equaling the inaugural team (1974-75).
  • UMSL's 21 wins equal the second most in program history, one shy of the school record of 22 in 1980-81.
  • Sixth-year head coach Katie Vaughn became the program's all-time wins leader in Thursday's win over Bellarmine with her 98th victory at UMSL.
 
PLAYER MILESTONES
  • Senior Jordan Fletcher ranks fourth all-time on the career scoring charts with 1,275 points. She is the career leader in blocked shots (134), field goal percentage (58.3) and free throws attempted.
  • Freshman Alex LaPorta owns a freshman single season record with 227 rebounds.
 
ABOUT DRURY
Drury improved to 27-2 overall with its win over McKendree, which ran the Panthers' win streak to 12 games. Drury is defeating its opponents by an average of 21.4 points. Both losses came on the road, including an 84-70 defeat at Bellarmine on January 18.
 
SERIES HISTORY
UMSL has one just one game in 26 meetings all-time against Drury, a 58-56 victory in Springfield, Mo., during the 2012-13 season. The Panthers handed the Tritons a 69-55 setback on November 30 in the GLVC opener. UMSL outscored Drury, 38-23, in the second half behind 59.3 percent shooting, but it wasn't enough to overcome a dismal second quarter in which they were outscored 33-6. Freshman Alex LaPorta recorded 10 points and 15 rebounds, while junior Arielle Jackson scored 16 points.
