SETTING THE SCENE
The UMSL men's basketball team closes out the regular season at crosstown foe Maryville on Saturday. The Tritons will be looking to lock in a spot in the GLVC Tournament and to secure their first 20-win season since 1990-91.
UMSL and Maryville enter the week as the only two teams with one remaining game on their GLVC schedule, while all other 12 schools also play Thursday night. The Tritons are looking to return to the league's postseason tournament after missing out last season.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
- UMSL is 19-8 overall and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 68-56 win last Saturday over Missouri S&T in its home finale.
- The Tritons are 10-7 in the GLVC and enter the week in seventh place in the overall league standings, a half-game behind Indianapolis and Rockhurst.
- In the Point Rating System, used to determine the top eight teams for the GLVC Tournament, UMSL is seventh.
- The Tritons are 4-4 in road games and are 2-0 on Maryville's home court, having opened the season with wins over Walsh and Tiffin to open the season at the GLVC/GMAC Crossover.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Maryville is 9-17 overall, including 4-13 in the GLVC and has lost three straight.
SERIES HISTORY
UMSL is 20-6 all-time against Maryville and earned a 70-64 win at home in the first meeting this season on January 26. Senior
Johnathan Matthews recorded 14 points, which included netting 6-of-6 free throws in the final 32 seconds, while senior
Eric Dust led the Tritons with 16 points, 14 of those coming in the opening half. Maryville posted a 79-70 win last year on its homecourt in the season finale, which also kept UMSL out of the GLVC Tournament.

The 2019 GLVC Tournament begins next Thursday (March 7) and will run through Sunday, March 10 at the Vadalabene Center on the campus of SIUE in Edwardsville, Ill.
