PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Travels West to Open Road Trip

SETTING THE SCENE
The UMSL women's basketball team will look to stay in the win column when it opens a four-game roadswing at Missouri S&T on Thursday. The Tritons, who have won their last three, close out the week with a trip to No. 1 ranked and undefeated Drury on Saturday.  
 
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • UMSL is 11-9 overall, including 5-6 in the GLVC.
  • The Tritons are just 2-6 on the road.
  • UMSL is tied for sixth place in the overall GLVC standings with McKendree and are tied for eighth in the GLVC Point Rating System, which is used to determine the top eight teams for the league's postseason tournament.
  • In GLVC-only games, UMSL is third in scoring defense, limiting opponents to 63.7 points per game, and is second in field goal percentage defense at 39.3 percent.
  • Sophomore Alex LaPorta leads the GLVC in rebounding (11.1 in GLVC-only games and 10.6 in all games). She ranks 25th in NCAA DII.
  • Senior Arielle Jackson ranks fifth in league-only games with a 15.5 points per game average.
  • Freshman Kiara Stewart is averaging 7.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game in GLVC games. She is coming off a season-best 15 caroms in last Saturday's win over William Jewell.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Missouri S&T is 8-10 overall, including 4-7 in the GLVC and sits in a tie for ninth place in the league standings and are 10th in the Point Rating System. The Lady Miners are 6-3 at home.
 
Drury is the top-ranked women's team in NCAA DII for the second straight week. They enter a Thursday home game against Maryville at 21-0 overall, including 11-0 in the GLVC and 10-0 at home. The Panthers have had just two games decided by single digits, including a 72-66 decision against Truman State last Saturday in its last outing.
 
SERIES HISTORIES
UMSL is 23-38 all-time against Missouri S&T, but has won the last four, including a 76-53 victory at home last season.
 
The Tritons are 1-26 against Drury and fell to the Panthers twice last season, including 69-55 in Springfield in the GLVC opener and 69-66 in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament.
