SETTING THE SCENE
UMSL wraps up a week of three road games, traveling to Illinois Springfield on Thursday night and to Lewis on Saturday. Including these two games, the Tritons will have played six of their last of seven games on the road. UMSL is looking to bounce back from a 92-86 overtime loss at Lindenwood in which they led by six with 48 seconds to play.
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars are 6-10 overall, including 1-7 in the GLVC, and have lost four straight.
UMSL-UIS SERIES
- UMSL is 11-3 all-time against Illinois Springfield.
- The two teams split the series last year, each winning at home. The Tritons posted an 82-54 victory in St. Louis, while UIS claimed a 68-58 win in Springfield.
ABOUT LEWIS
Lewis is one of two undefeated teams in GLVC play and enters a Thursday home game against Lindenwood with an 11-5 record, which includes an 8-0 league mark. The Flyers have won seven straight and are 4-1 at home.
UMSL-LEWIS SERIES
- Lewis leads the all-time series, 26-8.
- The Flyers have won seven of the last eight meetings, including an 84-61 decision in Romeoville last year.
- The last three regular season meetings have been played in Romeoville.
SIZING UP THE TRITONS
- UMSL is 7-10 overall and 2-6 in the GLVC.
- The Tritons are 3-6 in road games. Three of those losses have been in overtime, while three losses have been by nine points or less.
- Redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi averages a team-best 11.9 points per game, while juniors Danielle Berry (10.7 ppg) and Alex LaPorta (10.2 ppg) also average double figures.
- Berry is averaging 17.0 points per game in the last two contests after scoring just two points in each of the three previous outings.
- LaPorta leads the team in rebounds (8.4 rpg) and assists (3.5 apg).
- Sophomore Faye Meissner has posted a career-high in points twice in the last three games, including 17 in Monday's overtime loss at Lindenwood.
REBOUND THAT BASKETBALL
Junior
Alex LaPorta ranks fourth in program history with 641 rebounds. She is sixth in the league this season (8.4 rpg) after leading the GLVC in that category a year ago. Â
FRESHMAN ORIENTATION
UMSL has just one freshman on its roster,
Breanna Diestelkamp. She is averaging 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in her rookie campaign.
