SETTING THE SCENE
  • UMSL (21-5, 12-4 GLVC) returns home to the friendly confines of the Mark Twain Building for its final four regular season games, beginning Thursday and Saturday against William Jewell and Rockhurst, respectively.
  • The Tritons return home after a four-game roadswing where they went 1-3, which included a pair of one-point losses, including a 67-66 decision at Southern Indiana last Saturday in their last outing.

ON THE NATIONAL SCENE
  • UMSL is nationally ranked in the NABC Coaches DII Poll for the sixth straight week, coming in at No. 24 this week.
  • The Tritons were ranked as high as No. 13 earlier this season, a program-high.
  • Prior to this season, UMSL's last national ranking came during the 1990-91 season.

HOME SWEET HOME
UMSL is 12-0 at home this season. They were 13-4 a year ago and are 71-29 in the Mark Twain Building under seventh-year head coach Bob Sundvold.

WHERE THE TRITONS STAND
  • UMSL sits in second place in the overall GLVC standings, one game behind Truman State and one game ahead of Indianapolis, Southern Indiana, Southwest Baptist and Rockhurst.
  • In the Point Rating System, used to determine the GLVC Tournament field and seedings, UMSL is tied for third with Bellarmine.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
UMSL ranks fourth in NCAA DII in scoring defense (62.0 ppg) and 15th in steals per game (9.1).

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
  • The Cardinals are 9-15 overall, including 4-12 in the GLVC and have lost three straight. They are coming off a four-game homestand.
  • William Jewell is 2-7 on the road.
  • The Cardinals rank 13th in the GLVC Point Rating System.  

UMSL-WILLIAM JEWELL SERIES
  • UMSL is 14-7 all-time against William Jewell and has won four of the last five meetings.
  • The last two meetings have been decided by three points or less, including last years 86-84 win by the Tritons in St. Louis.

ABOUT ROCKHURST
  • The Hawks enter a Thursday road game at Lindenwood at 15-9 overall, including 11-5 in the GLVC.
  • Rockhurst is one of four teams tied for fourth place in the overall GLVC standings and is in sixth place in the GLVC Point Rating System.
  • The Hawks, 5-3 on the road, are coming off a four-game homestand.
  • In GLVC-only games, Rockhurst ranks second behind UMSL in steals with 7.38 per game.

UMSL-ROCKHURST SERIES
  • UMSL holds a slim 22-21 advantage in the all-time series and has won six of the last seven, including a 75-59 decision in St. Louis last year.
  • This is the third straight year Rockhurst and UMSL are meeting in St. Louis.

SIZING UP THE TRITONS
  • Juniors Yaakema Rose Jr. (14.0 ppg) and Jose Grubbs (13.7 ppg) have been atop the scoring leaders all season.
  • In GLVC-only games, Rose Jr. is 13th in the league with 15.8 points per game.
  • Rose Jr. leads the GLVC in steals and is 16th in NCAA DII with 2.24 per game. He has 56 on the season which is fifth most in a single season in program history.
  • Seniors Jason Towery (10.2 ppg) and Jalen Wilkins-McCoy (10.0 ppg) also average double figures.  
  • Redshirt sophomore Steve Webb leads the team in rebounds (7.2 rpg) and assists (3.5 apg).

UP NEXT
UMSL concludes the regular season at home next week, hosting Lewis on Thursday and Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
