Another All-American honor for UMSL's Richards

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- UMSL senior Charlotte Richards is going to need a larger mantle to house her volleyball honors.

Richards now has been named to the All-America Second Team by the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association, it was announced Wednesday afternoon.

Richards concluded the 2021 season with the following line: 34 matches/123 sets played, produced 569 kills (4.36 per set) and had 10 assists.

The Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native will return to the court next fall.

A total of 21 student-athletes from 13 universities are represented on three All-American teams.

This marks the 15th year teams have been selected since the All-America program began.

First team players include: outside hitter Alexis Cardoza, CSU San Bernadino; outside hitter Erin Krupar, Ashland University; outside hitter Rylee Hladky, MSU Denver; middle hitter Veresia Yon, University of West Florida; middle hitter Audrey Fisher, Central Missouri; libero/defensive specialist Faith Rottinghaus, Washburn; and setter Maddy Torve, St. Cloud State.

Second team players joining Richards include: outside hitter Jenna Dufresne, West Virginia State University; outside hitter Genna Berg, Washburn University; middle hitter Megan Flom, Winona State University; middle hitter Allyssa Can Wienen, Hillsdale College; libero/defensive specialist Jamie Poppen, Lewis University; and setter Taylor Vaneekeren, University of West Florida.

Third team players include: outside hitter Kenzie Foley, St. Cloud State; outside hitter Payton Kirchhoefer, Northwest Missouri State; outside hitter Madi Cooler, University of West Florida; middle hitter Alison Maxwell, Washburn; middle hitter Jalyn Hayes, CSU San Bernadino; libero/defensive specialist Kari Mercer, USC Aiken; and setter Lindsey Mertz, Hillsdale College.

Honorable mention: outside hitter Journey Blevins, University of Findlay; outside hitter Gabby Gunterman, Western Washington University; outside hitter Katie McKiel, University of Tampa; middle hitter Olivia Fairchild, Western Washington University; middle hitter Madison Clayton, West Liberty University; libero/defensive Ashton Marshall, University of West Florida; and setter Bre Maloney, Winona State University.
