CARMEL, IND. – University of Missouri-St. Louis senior
Emma Thorngren has earned a spot at the NCAA Championship as the Tritons wrapped up play at the East Regional on Wednesday at the Prairie View Golf Club.
Thorngren placed third with a score of 221 (72-78-71) and is one of three individuals not with an advancing team to punch their ticket to the 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship, which will be held May 11-15 at TPC Michigan in Detroit, Mich.
Thorngren will be playing in her fourth career NCAA Championship event, but first without her team as the Tritons came up three strokes short of advancing.
UMSL finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a 928 (305-319-304), finishing fourth. Indianapolis won the regional title with an 890, while Findlay (912) and Grand Valley State (925), finished second and third, respectively, to advance on.
The Tritons entered today's final 18 holes 17 strokes behind Grand Valley State and shot the field's second lowest round of the day with a 304, but came up just short of pulling ahead of the Lakers.
Thorngren's score of 71 today was the lowest of the tournament by any player.
