Sundvold Adds Javis Flynn to Coaching Staff

ST. LOUIS – University of Missouri-St. Louis head men's basketball coach Bob Sundvold has announced the hiring of Javis Flynn as an assistant coach.
 
Flynn comes to UMSL from Illinois Springfield where he spent last season as an assistant coach.
 
"We are excited to have Javis join our Tritons men's basketball program," said Sundvold. "His experiences as both an assistant coach and as a former player will be an asset to our program. His knowledge of the area and within our recruiting footprint will also be a great addition to our staff."
 
Prior to his appointment at UIS, Flynn was an assistant coach at Columbia College during the 2019-20 season. He was part of a program that went 20-12, and had one of the top defenses at the NAIA level. The Cougars ranked in the top-15 nationally in scoring defense, blocks, field-goal percentage defense, and three-point field-goal percentage defense.
 
Flynn spent the 2018-19 season at Missouri Baptist. That squad had the best season in program history, going 28-5 and winning a conference championships. Prior to Missouri Baptist, Flynn was an assistant girls coach for one year at Carl Junction High School in 2017-18. Carl Junction went 23-3 that year and made the first state championship appearance in program history.
 
Flynn was a player at NCAA Division II Pittsburg State where he dished out 299 assists and stole 136 balls in two seasons with the Gorillas. He averaged 6.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 2.2 steals in 61 games at Pittsburg State. Flynn holds the school record for most assists in a game with 12, is third in career steals average, and third in career assists per game. As a senior, he was named honorable mention all-MIAA and to the MIAA all-defensive team.
 
Flynn was an all-conference player at Pratt Community College, which he attended for two seasons. He averaged eight points, four rebounds, and nine assists a game.
