INDIANAPOLIS - University of Missouri-St. Louis seniors Joel Sylven and Reilly Ahearn have been named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team in men's golf, while Tritons head coach Troy Halterman has been named the GLVC Coach of the Year.
Sylven, the GLVC medalist, earns All-GLVC honors for the fourth time in his career. He leads UMSL with a 72.81 scoring average and has won three individual titles this spring, including the Arch Cup and the Findlay Spring Invite.
Ahearn owns a scoring average of 75.42 and placed fourth at the GLVC Championships last month.
Halterman, in his 14th season at the helm of the Tritons program, earns GLVC Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time. He led UMSL to the GLVC title as the second-seeded Tritons won the program's third championship after knocking off top-seeded Indianapolis in the championship match.
The league also recognized 13 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award nominees, including UMSL's Juan Antonio Padilla, and the overall team winner, UMSL. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced later this month.
UMSL will compete at the NCAA Championships next week in Dearborn, Mich., after earning a tie for fifth place finish at last weekend's NCAA Midwest/Central Regional.
