WBB Preview: UMSL Women’s Basketball Begins Three-Game Road Trip on Thursday

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team looks to build off its win over Maryville last Saturday as it embarks on a wrap around three-game road trip this weekend that starts this Thursday (Jan. 12) at McKendree. The Tritons head to Indianapolis on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon and conclude the trip at Lewis next Monday (Jan. 16) afternoon.

UMSL (4-8, 2-4 GLVC) snapped its two-game skid with an impressive offensive performance in its 80-68 win against the Saints last Saturday. The Tritons recorded season-highs in points, field goals made (28), field goal percentage (57.1) three-point field goals made (8) and three-point field goal percentage (72.7). They also tied their season-high with 16 free throws made.

Jalysa Stokes recorded career-highs in points (26) and field goals made (9) and tied her career-high with four made three-pointers. She continues to lead the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game. Morgan Ramthun added 14 points in the win and is second on the team in scoring and rebounding with 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest while Kiara Stewart scored a season-high 12 points in the contest and is averaging 6.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season.

About McKendree – The Bearcats enter Thursday's contest with a record of 6-7, 3-3 in the GLVC and have lost two straight. They lost at second ranked Drury 96-57 last Thursday and then were edged by Missouri S&T 80-78 on Saturday afternoon.

Naomi McDaniel leads the team in scoring and rebounding this season with 13.0 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. She's joined in double figures by Clare Breden at 10.6 points per contest. Breden also leads the team in assists (27) and steals (22).

About Indianapolis – The Greyhounds enter Thursday's contest against Missouri S&T with a record of 7-7, 3-3 GLVC and are coming off a 93-74 defeat at third ranked Drury last Saturday. Elana Wells led three Hounds in double figures with 23 points while Liv Becker added 16 and Ilani Williams-Harris finished with 13 points.

Sadie Hill leads UIndy in scoring with 14.9 points per outing this season while Wells is contributing 10.4 points per contest. Hill also leads the team in rebounding with 8.0 per game and Williams-Harris is the team leader in assists (55) and steals (25).

About Lewis – The Flyers started the season with four straight losses but since then have been one of the hottest teams in the GLVC winning seven in a row and nine of their last 10. One of those wins was a 69-63 victory at then top ranked Grand Valley State on Dec. 31 in Allendale, Mich.

Lewis hosts second ranked Drury this Thursday before welcoming S&T and UMSL to town to wrap up its three-game homestand.

The Flyers have four players averaging double figures in scoring this season and are led by Grace Hilber with 15.6 points per game. Kathryn Schmidt is averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while Taylor Gugliuzza is at 12.6 points per contest and Jenna Badali is contributing 10.3 points and leads the team in assists (50) and steals (21).

Series History – Thursday's game marks the 37th meeting all-time between the Tritons and Bearcats with UMSL having won 31 of the 36 contests. UMSL has won six straight in the series including all three contests last season.

Saturday's game is the 36th meeting between the Tritons and Greyhounds with UIndy holding a 21-14 advantage. UMSL has won the last three meetings including last year's contest 51-41 in Indianapolis.

Lewis leads the all-time series against the Tritons 29-11 and has won three of the past four contests including a 67-55 decision earlier this season on Dec. 10 at the Mark Twain Building.
