WBB Preview: Tritons Resume Conference Play with Split Weekend

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a pair of games this weekend. The Tritons (3-7, 1-3 GLVC) will travel to Kansas City on Thursday (Jan. 5) to take on Rockhurst at 5:30 p.m. and then will return home to face Maryville on Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon at 1 p.m.

UMSL looks to bounce back after its 91-65 to Parkside on Saturday afternoon when it takes on the Hawks on Thursday.

The Tritons shot 41 percent in the contest against the Rangers and were led in scoring by Jalysa Stokes with 17 points while Morgan Ramthun added 13 points and Amaya Blake finished with nine points.

As a team, UMSL is averaging 55.4 points per contest, shooting 40 percent from the field and 79 percent at the charity stripe. Stokes leads the team in scoring with 13.2 points per game while Ramthun is averaging 11.5 points per outing and Blake is contributing 9.4 ppg. Kiara Stewart leads the team in rebounding with 8.4 boards per game. Blake and Shae Dillavou are tied for the team lead in assists with 15 and Ramthun has a team-high 12 steals.

About Rockhurst – The Hawks (5-7, 0-4 GLVC) enter Thursday's game riding a two-game winning streak after defeating Baker (Kan.) 67-41 last Friday and Park (Mo.) 67-42 on Monday evening. Molly Hummel had a double-double in the win over the Pirates with 13 points and 13 rebounds while Keegan Sullivan added 10 points and eight rebounds.

As a team, Rockhurst is averaging 69.3 points per contest while shooting 38 percent from the field but only 29 percent from three and 69 percent at the foul line. It's averaging 40.1 boards per game and is outrebounding its opponents by two per outing.

Sullivan leads the team with 17.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while Hummel is adding 11.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. Macie Conway is the only other Hawk averaging double figures in scoring at 10.2 points per outing. Sullivan has a team-best 28 assists and Hummel leads the squad with 25 steals.

Series History – The Tritons lead the all-time series against the Hawks 20-11 and have won five of the last six meetings. UMSL swept Rockhurst last season defeating the Hawks 61-57 in Kansas City and 72-40 at the Mark Twain Building.

About Maryville – The Saints enter Thursday's game at Missouri S&T with a record of 9-3 and is 4-1 in the GLVC. Maryville was picked to finish eighth this season in the GLVC Preseason Coaches Poll but is currently in a three-way tie for second along with Truman State and Lewis while S&T and McKendree are a half game behind at 3-1.

As a team, the Saints are averaging 70.2 points per contest and are outscoring their opponents by more than eight per game. They're shooting 39.9 percent from the floor including 32.2 percent from three and have connected on 76 percent of their free throw attempts.

Antoinette Mussorici leads Maryville in scoring this season with 14.5 points per contest and has a team-high 39 assists. Carsyn Fearday, Haidyn Pitsch and Taylor Kirby are averaging 12.3, 11.7 and 10.2 points per outing respectively. Kirby leads the team with 6.7 rebounds per game and has 22 steals.

Series History – Saturday's contest marks the 31st meeting all-time between UMSL and Maryville with the Tritons holding a 17-13 lead. The Tritons won both meetings with the Saints last season defeating them 68-56 at the Mark Twain Building and 65-49 at Maryville.
