ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team looks to improve its playoff positioning as it hosts Drury and Southwest Baptist this weekend at Don Dallas Field.
The Tritons enter play this weekend with a GLVC record of 6-3-1, have 19 points and are tied for fifth with Illinois Springfield in the league standings. UMSL will take on two teams this weekend on the opposite end of the conference standings with Drury tied for first with Maryville with 26 points while Southwest Baptist sits in 12th with a conference record of 2-7-2 and eight points.
McKendree and Lewis are currently tied for third with 24 points.
Last Time Out – The Tritons extended their winning streak to three with two road wins last weekend. They opened with a 1-0 win against Illinois Springfield last Friday on
Kayley Judy's game-winner from 35 yards out in the 20th minute. On Sunday, UMSL scored three goals in the first half in its 5-0 win over Quincy. Four different Tritons scored in the contest led by Judy with two goals while
Jada Holloman,
Jaycee Cotton and
Abby Reeves had a goal apiece.
Mary Kate Neal posted back-to-back shutouts and now has three on the season.
Offensive Firepower – During its three-game winning streak UMSL has outscored its opponents 11-0 and have scored five goals in two of those contests (Upper Iowa, Quincy). Judy and
Kendal White lead the way with three goals each while Holloman, Cotton, Reeves,
Josie Maddox and
Candice Parziani have scored a goal apiece.
Hunting for Goose Eggs – Not to be outdone, the Triton defense has posted clean sheets in its last three contests and now has six on the season. UMSL's defense has allowed a total of 16 shots in its last three games but only five of landed on goal. Neal leads the team in shutouts while
Grace Hastert has two clean sheets and
Rylee Griffith has the other.
League Leaders – The Tritons rank third in the GLVC this season with 28 goals scored and are fourth in goals allowed with 12. Maryville leads the league with 36 goals scored while Drury has conceded the fewest with five.
About Drury – The Panthers enter Friday's contest with a record of 11-2-2, 8-1-2 GLVC and are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. Last weekend, Drury played to a scoreless draw against Rockhurst and then defeated William Jewell 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Courtney Tucker leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points while Danielle Buker, Andrea Camargo and Tara Simon have seven points each. Simon leads the team with three-game winning goals.
Kaitlin Knetzke is one of the best goalkeepers in the GLVC this season having allowed only five goals in 1350 minutes played. She has a save percentage of .872, a goals against average of 0.33, has made 34 saves and posted 11 shutouts. Knetzke has conceded only two goals in conference play.
About Southwest Baptist – The Bearcats enter Friday's contest at McKendree with an overall record of 4-9-3 but are 2-3-2 in its last seven contests. SBU picked up a split last weekend defeating William Jewell 2-0 last Friday and then were defeated by Rockhurst 4-1 on Sunday.
Tamerra Gantt leads the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points while Savannah Green has scored three goals this season.
Ashlynn Edison has played more than 1185 minutes in goal this season and has made 75 saves, has a goals against average of 1.75, a save percentage of .765 and has posted four shutouts.
