ST. LOUIS – After a three-game road swing to begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team returns home this weekend to host Indianapolis and Lewis. The Tritons take on the Greyhounds on Friday at 5 p.m. and conclude the weekend against the Flyers on Sunday at noon.
Last Time Out – UMSL (3-2-2, 2-1 GLVC) had its two-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss at McKendree on Sunday afternoon. The Bearcats scored twice in the first seven minutes of the contest getting a goal from Destiny Johnson in the second minute and their second goal came off an own goal in the seventh minute.
The Tritons cut into the lead early in the second half as
Jada Holloman scored her team leading fourth goal of the season off a corner kick in the 55th minute. UMSL had a chance to even the game but
Jaycee Cotton's header attempt late in the game was saved by the keeper.
GLVC Statistical Rankings – The Tritons rank third in the conference in scoring with a total of 32 points registering 11 goals and 10 assists and are averaging 1.6 goals per game. Holloman is tied for the top spot in the league with her four goals while Cotton is tied for fifth with three goals. Cotton is also second in the league with two game-winning goals. Holloman is third in the conference with 1.29 points per game while Cotton is sixth at 1.00 per contest.
About UIndy – The Greyhounds enter Friday night's contest with a record of 3-3-2, 2-1-1 in the GLVC. Last weekend, the Hounds played to a scoreless draw against Rockhurst last Friday and then defeated William Jewell 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
UIndy is averaging 1.13 goals per game this season but have conceded 1.25 goals per contest. Sarah Wegener leads the team in scoring this season with nine points on three goals and three assists. Genevieve Crocker has tallied four points with a goal and two assists.
Kendall Ellis has played a majority of the minutes in goal this season and has made 34 saves, posted three shutouts and has a save percentage of 0.791.
About Lewis – After a slow start to the season the Flyers have won three straight heading into Friday night's contest at McKendree. During its three-game winning streak, Lewis has scored eight goals while posting two shutouts. Last weekend the Flyers defeated William Jewell 4-2 and Rockhurst 1-0. Melisa Hadzic scored three of those goals and was named the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week while Elisa Aguilar added two goals.
Hadzic leads the team in goals (4) and points (8) while Aguilar and Breanna Culver are tied for second with seven points each. Bekah Nielsen has played most of the minutes in goal this season making 26 saves and has posted two shutouts.
Up Next – The Tritons head back out on the road next weekend traveling to Missouri S&T (Oct. 6) for a 5 p.m. start and then will take on cross town rival Maryville (Oct. 8) at noon.
