ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team heads on the road this weekend for a pair of GLVC contests. The Tritons take on the UIndy Greyhounds on Thursday at 4 p.m. (CST) and conclude the trip with a game at Lewis on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Romeoville, Ill.
In its last contest UMSL (7-8, 5-4 GLVC) nearly rallied from a 22-point fourth quarter deficit but ran out of time in a 52-48 loss to McKendree last Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building.
Jalysa Stokes led all scorers with a game-high 23 points and was joined in double figures by
Audrey Martinez-Stewart with 14 points.
Stokes continues to lead the league in scoring at 19.4 points per game and is closing in on 1,000 points for her career as she is 11 points shy of becoming the 18th player in school history to join the exclusive club. She ranks in the top 20 nationally in field goal attempts (second), field goals made (eighth), points per game (15th) and minutes per game (18th).
In her last three games, Martinez-Stewart is averaging 10.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while recording seven assists and five steals.
Morgan Ramthun continues to lead the Tritons on the glass as she is averaging 8.1 rebounds per outing which is tied for fifth best in the conference.
About UIndy – The Greyhounds enter Thursday's contest with an overall record of 8-7 and are tied with UMSL for sixth in the conference standings at 5-4. The Hounds snapped their two-game losing streak last Saturday with a 91-71 win at William Jewell. Jodi Mullins led five UIndy players in double figures with 18 points while Shekinah Thomas added 17 more off the bench. The Greyhounds broke the game open with a big third quarter outscoring the Cardinals 32-16.
Elana Wells and Liv Becker lead the Hounds in scoring with 16.5 and 14.3 points per game respectively. Patricia Chikamba is averaging 7.4 rebounds per outing while Wells leads the squad with 65 assists but has also turned the ball over a team-high 53 times this season. Caroline Jakaitis leads the team with 21 blocked shots.
About Lewis – The Flyers enter Thursday's contest against McKendree with a record of 9-6 overall and are tied with the Bearcats for the top spot in the GLVC at 8-1. Lewis had its eight-game conference winning streak snapped in a 55-53 loss at Rockhurst last Saturday. Grace Hilber led the way for the Flyers with 13 points in the contest.
Hilber leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game and is joined in double figures by Kathryn Schmidt at 13.4 per contest, Jenna Badali is contributing 11.6 per outing and Taylor Gugliuzza is at 11.3 ppg. Gugliuzza and Schmidt lead the team in rebounding with 6.9 and 6.5 rebounds per game respectively. Badali has a team-best 58 assists and Gugliuzza has a team-high 22 steals.
Up Next – The Tritons are back at home next weekend hosting Missouri S&T next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Maryville next Saturday at 1 p.m. Both games will be played at the Mark Twain Building.
