KANSAS CITY – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team had two players named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team, announced on Tuesday. Junior defender
Taylor Martin was a first team selection while senior defender
Julie Steiger landed on the second team.
Martin, the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-GLVC and first team D2CCA All-Midwest Region selection, tallied a goal and four assists for a total of six points this season.
Steiger, a first team All-GLVC honoree, earns the first All-Region honor of her career after a campaign that saw her tally one goal and two assists for a total of four points this season.
Martin and Steiger were one of the top center back combos in the region this season anchoring a backline that posted 12 shutouts, gave up an average 0.64 goals per game and yielded just 8.5 shots per contest.
The duo helped lead UMSL to a 15-5-2 record, the program's first ever regular season conference championship, the program's sixth bid to the NCAA Tournament, a Midwest Region title and a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals. The 15 wins are tied for second most in a single season in school history.
The United Soccer Coaches Division II All-America team will be announced this Thursday (Dec. 11).
