ST. LOUIS – The 22nd ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team earned postseason accolades on Wednesday as senior setter
Caitlin Bishop was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) Midwest Region Player of the Year and head coach
Ryan Young was selected by his peers as the AVCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
The Tritons had three players earn All-Region accolades as Bishop,
Alayna Santel and
Skylar Weaver were first team selection on both the D2CCA and AVCA teams.
Bishop, the GLVC's Player of the Year and First Team All-GLVC selection, leads the country in assists per set this season with 12.46 and total assists (1,346). She directs the GLVC's top offense, with UMSL leading the league in points per set (18.36), kills per set (15.05), assists per set (14.18) and hitting percentage (.263). The Tritons also lead Division II in kills per set (15.05) and are fourth in total kills with 1,656. Bishop was named the GLVC's Setter of the Week seven times this season.
Weaver, the GLVC's Libero of the Year and First Team All-GLVC selection, leads the GLVC in total digs with 584 and is second in digs per set at 5.31. She ranks 17th in Division II in total digs and 20th in digs per set. Weaver was named the GLVC's Defensive Player of the Week thrice this season.
Santel, a First Team All-GLVC selection, leads UMSL in points per set (4.95) and kills per set (4.17) and is currently hitting .304 for the season. She ranks second in the GLVC in points per set and kills per set and 10th in hitting percentage. Santel ranks 12th in Division II in points per set and 14th in kills per set. She was named the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week and AVCA National Player of the Week this season.
Young was named the AVCA's Midwest Region Coach of the Year for the third time in four seasons guiding the Tritons to a 26-4 record including 13-0 in the GLVC, a GLVC championship and the number one seed in the Midwest Regional this weekend.
UMSL will take on eighth seeded UIndy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday (Dec. 4) at 4:30 p.m. at the Mark Twain Building.
