ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team will ring in the New Year with a pair of home contests against Quincy and Upper Iowa this weekend at the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons and Hawks square off this Friday (Jan. 2) at 7:45 p.m. and UMSL will conclude its homestand against the Peacocks on Sunday (Jan. 4) at 3:15 p.m.
The Tritons enter Friday evening's contest against Quincy with an overall record of 8-5 including 2-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
UMSL split its final two games of 2025 at the River City Classic in San Antonio. It defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 61-56 on December 16 but fell to Dallas Baptist 81-77 the next day.
Jake Hamilton averaged 18 points per contest on 13-of-21 shooting including 8-for-11 from three while averaging 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
The Tritons are averaging 73.4 points per game this season while allowing 65.3 per outing. They're shooting nearly 47 percent (339-for-728) from the floor including 35 percent from three and 72.1 percent at the charity stripe. UMSL is outrebounding its opponents by two rebounds per game (33.8-to-31.8) and have forced 196 turnovers including 111 steals.
The Tritons have three players averaging double digits in scoring led by
Taye Moore at 13.8 points per game while Hamilton is at 11.7 per contest and
Makeer Makeer is contributing 10.6 per outing.
Vincent Davis III leads the squad with 5.6 rebounds per contest with Hamilton right behind at 5.5 per game.
Miles Boland has team-highs in assists with 60 and steals with 32.
About Quincy – The Hawks enter Friday's game with a record of 6-5 including 1-2 in the GLVC and are riding a two-game winning streak. The Hawks defeated Hillsdale (63-61) and Roosevelt 67-57 in its final games before the holiday break.
Quincy is averaging nearly 78 points per game but is allowing nearly 73 points per contest. It is shooting 48.6 percent from the field including 34 percent from three and shooting 76 percent at the foul line. It is averaging 37.2 rebounds per outing and outrebounding opponents by 4.7 per game.
The Hawks are holding opponents to just 27 percent shooting from three which is tops in the conference.
Quincy has four players averaging double digits in scoring led by Camren Kincaid at 15.2 per game. He is joined by Tiernan Stynes, Max Booher and Ethan Bolton with 14.6, 12.5 and 10.3 per game respectively. Jakeb Wallingford leads the team with an average of 7.2 rebounds per outing with Bolton right behind at 7.1 per game. Kincaid has a team best 38 assists while Stynes leads the team with 18 steals.
About Upper Iowa – The Peacocks split their final two games of 2025 defeating Clarke 103-74 but fell to Roosevelt 83-80 on Dec. 19. The loss to the Lakers snapped Upper Iowa's six-game winning streak. The Peacocks enter Friday's game at Maryville with an 8-2 record overall including 3-0 in the GLVC.
Upper Iowa is second in conference in scoring at 87.5 points per game, offensive rebounds per game (13.5) and steals per game with 9.5. It leads the GLVC in bench scoring at 33.1 points per contest and is shooting 47.8 percent from the field. It is shooting 34.2 percent from three but is only connecting on 66 percent of its free throw attempts which is second lowest in the conference.
Kyle Hrncir is fourth in the league in scoring at 19.8 points per outing, is third in rebounding at 9.2 per game and leads the team in assists (40) and steals (21). Trey Lewis is averaging 15.4 points per contest while Tate Petersen is averaging 10.7 points per game.
Up Next – UMSL begins a two-game road swing next week as it travels to Kansas City next Thursday to take on Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m. and then will travel down to Bolivar, Mo., to face Southwest Baptist on Saturday at 3 p.m.
