SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis is set to take on No. 16 Lake Superior State in the Midwest Region championship game on Tuesday (March 18) at 7 p.m. at The Recreation and Athletic Center in Springfield, Ill.
The Tritons (21-11), seeded fourth, advance to the regional final for the third time in four years. They fell to Hillsdale in 2022 but defeated McKendree to advance to the Elite Eight in 2023. UMSL's road to the final included wins over fifth seeded Ferris State 81-79 in the first round on Saturday night and a 65-56 win over top seeded and No. 12 Missouri S&T on Sunday.
The Tritons are seeking their third trip to the Elite Eight in program history joining the 1971-72 and 2022-23 teams.
The Lakers (29-6), seeded second, got to the final by defeating seventh seeded Lincoln (Mo.) 76-64 on Saturday afternoon and third seeded Michigan Tech 83-73 in the semifinal contest on Sunday. Lake Superior State was in the Midwest Region final a year ago losing to Ferris State 86-81.
UMSL is averaging 73 points per game during the regional while shooting 52 percent from the field including 12-for-32 from three.
Matt Enright leads the team in scoring with 17.5 points per game while
Troy Glover II is averaging a double-double with 16.5 points, 14.0 rebounds per game and has blocked five shots.
Enright has moved into second place on the school's single season three-point field goals made list with 98 and is 13 behind former teammate
Bowen Sandquist who made 111 threes in 2022-23. Enright is also second time on the career three-point field goals made list with 192 and is six threes away from passing Shane Wissink for the most in school history.
Glover broke his own single season record for blocked shots with 63 and is second all-time in school history with 112 and is 17 away from passing Rodney Hawthorne for the most.
The two teams earlier this season at the McKendree DII Classic Presented by State Farm back on Nov. 21. LSSU won that matchup holding the Tritons to a season-low 46 points. Glover led UMSL with 11 points in that contest while
Savon Wykle added 10 off the bench.
The Lakers enter Tuesday's contest having won 10 of their last 12 games and were the runners-up in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
LSSU is averaging 79. 5 points per game in the tournament and are led by Tyson Edmondson with 26 points per outing while Adam Harakow is contributing 22 points per game. Hunter Soper and Harakow are the team's leading rebounders with 8.0 and 7.0 per contest respectively. Edmondson is shooting 69 percent (11-for-16) from three in the tournament.
Tuesday's winner advances to the Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind., beginning next Tuesday.
