ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team begins a three-game homestand this Thursday hosting Missouri S&T at 5:30 p.m. on Chuck Smith Court at the Mark Twain Building. The homestand continues this Saturday against the Lincoln Blue Tigers at 1 p.m.
The Tritons extended their winning streak to five with a pair of road wins last week. UMSL opened the week with a 58-43 win at Rockhurst last Thursday and then defeated Southwest Baptist 84-54 last Saturday. The Tritons received two votes in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches poll.
Mara Rieder led UMSL's attack averaging 23 points and 9.5 rebounds per outing while
Morgan Ramthun added 16.5 points and 10 rebounds per contest. Ramthun scored a career-high 23 points in the win over the Bearcats while Rieder grabbed a career-high 16 boards against the Hawks.
Rieder continues to lead the GLVC in scoring this season at 20.9 points per game and is tied with Ramthun for second in the league with 9.6 rebounds per outing. Rieder is tied for the conference lead in free throw percentage at 90.3 percent and leads in blocked shots with 2.1 per game.
Anna Costa Riera leads the GLVC in total assists (66), assists per game (4.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.8.
Ramthun ranks fifth in the league in field goal percentage at 53.9 percent with Rieder right behind her at 53.7 percent.
Jayden Kuper is tied for second in the league with 2.7 steals per contest and is third overall with 38 steals.
About Missouri S&T – The Miners enter Thursday's contest with a record of 7-5, 3-3 in the GLVC and are coming off a 74-67 win at Drury last Thursday. It was their first win over the Panthers in Springfield since a 66-63 victory on December 6, 2012. Anna Gilbertson, Adriana Benassi and Macy Marracini had 11 points each in the victory to lead S&T.
Norah Gumm and Anna Finley lead the Miners in scoring this season with 12.2 and 10.4 points per game respectively while Ava McCulla is the team's top rebounder with 6.6 boards per contest. Finley is tied with Rieder for the league lead in free throw percentage at 90.3 percent.
Thursday's contest marks the 73rd meeting all-time between the Tritons and Miners with S&T holding a 41-31 edge in the series. UMSL was won three straight meetings and eight of the last 10 overall between the two sides.
About Lincoln – The Blue Tigers are looking to snap a six-game losing streak on Saturday. They're 4-11 on the season including 2-6 in GLVC action. Lincoln lost a pair or road games last week to Southwest Baptist 68-51 and Drury 86-49.
Laini Joseph leads the Blue Tigers in scoring and rebounding with 15.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. She ranks fourth and eighth in the GLVC in those categories. Joseph also leads the team with 25 assists and is tied for the team-high with 19 steals. Hallie Williamson leads the Blue Tigers with 11 blocked shots.
Saturday's contest against Lincoln marks the 53rd meeting all-time between the Tritons and Blue Tigers with UMSL holding a 34-18 advantage in the series. The Tritons won last season's meeting 78-53 in Jefferson City, Mo.
